I recently started doing the five minute journal after it was gifted to my by a friend. It’s so easy yet so functional that I need to share it with everyone I know. I wish I could send it to all my friends and fellow blog readers, peak performers because it really is a powerful addition to the journey of life.
The five minute journal starts off with a basic explanation of how the journaling process works without the scientific jargon on the benefits of daily journaling. In short is calls itself the journal for those that don’t journal.
It only takes about three minutes in the morning and about two minutes in the evening. The first thing you do when you get out of bed and the last thing you do before you go to sleep.
The journaling has been a good reminder to myself of what I want my day to look like as I think about all the things I am thankful for before getting my day going. At the end of the day a quiet reflection on what happened and what you would have done different or better. A quote come to mind from one of the pear cards we used in our post jiujitsu class discussion, “Not all days are good, but there is good in every day.” And the journal is a reminder to find those things and write them down.
On another topic, we don’t write much these days. I didn’t know this until recently, but the act of writing triggers a different part of the brain from tying on a key board. It’s not the same. In a time where we spend less moments actually writing, I think it’s just a good activity to make a part of your routine in addition to the reflection and affirmations you make at the beginning and end of the day. Go out and get a copy! “The five minute journal” $25 or so!
