Peak Performance: Breathing for the brain

In the last few years Ive been a regular practitioner of the WHM (wim hof method) breathing. This is an active breathing practice with breath holds and breath squeezes. I recently came across an alternative breathing method while listening to a Charles Poliquin Q&A session.

He talks about the left and right nostril activating different parts of the brain. According to his knowledge, the right nostril leads to brain activation and the left nostril leads to the calming of the brain. The implementation is easy. If you are getting ready to work out plug your left nostril and breathe deep through your right. If you’re looking to rest and fall asleep, plug your right nostril and breathe through your left. He suggests 10 breathes as being enough to effectively stimulate the brain.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I’ve heard of some yoga practitioners doing breathe work in this fashion but never to this explanation. If anyone has experience would love to hear about it.
