Yoga and the conscious breathe

I really appreciate the practice of breathing and moving in yoga. We’ve been doing the sun salutations almost every class and I have noticed myself moving and breathing in sync at certain points of the movement. There is a back and forth of conscious breathing and subconscious breathing that work in and out of sync.

In a way yoga feels like moving meditation.

For me in yoga, there is a flowing stream of consciousness that moves much like a wave. Back and forth, in and out. The breath and physical movement influence the mind. How crazy sounding is that! Or maybe it’s the other? Just a thought and sensation I had post practice.

Speaking of waves… the teacher, Kate, made an interesting point today. The body being mostly water, we should move like water. I found this quite profound. She likes to use figure 8 as an example in movement and motion. To me that’s a new idea and I find myself doing much more thinking and doing. But it makes sense. If we’re made mostly of water our movements should have resemblance water.

Go move!
