My friend shared this way of thinking with me. He recently attended an emotional intelligence seminar and this was one of the discussion items on their agenda.
Many people fall into the trap of thinking “I have to” do something. Really, you don’t have to do anything. You get to choose what you do.
When you change the way you approach conquering a task with your words, you change. Each approach offers a different message to your mind. The top being the strongest and the bottom being the weakest.
Yoda was right. “Do or do not, there is no try.” The phrase is a simple reminder to help your self talk support and reinforce your task and actions.
