Japanese Physical Culture: Karate and K1

While looking into some videography on Mas Ooyama and Kyokushin Karate, I came across another great figure in Karate and Japanese Physical Culture, Andy Hug.

Andy Hug

I’m not a big striking guy, and won’t claim to know much about the art. I think it’s an impressive skill, but I’ve never been keen enough to dedicate myself to learning the fine details. Watching Andy Hug, I was taken aback by his movement and skill.

Andy started with a Karate background and transferred his skills to early day K-1 fighting in Japan. He passed away at the young age of 35, but there is a great amount of videography done on him. Not only was he an inspiration within the ring of K-1, footage of him teaching his world champion karate skills have been documented as well.

The Switzerland native, fell in love with Japanese culture through the practice and customs of Karate and more specifically Kyokushin Karate.
